Let us first start by saying this: We love our Winnebago Micro Minnie FLX 2108DS, for a number of reasons. But there is always a drawback to having a slide: what to do when it fails, and the associated cost(s) to repair it. We purchased our FLX unit brand new in 2022, and we experienced our first problem with the Schwintek slide in October 2024. When we attempted to extend the slide, it would only extend a few inches. And, one side of the slide expressed a noticeable “jutting” type of motion. We pushed the button to retract the slide and then tried it again; the same thing happened.
At the time, it appeared that the problem was isolated to only one side of the slide, so we were hoping that it was a simple problem with the slide’s motor. When the service shop did the inspection, we were a bit shocked because the problem was much bigger than we had anticipated. They said both H columns and rails needed replacing. The total cost to repair the slide was: $2,488, (about half the cost of the Vroom Slide System), which is a far superior slide to that of the Schwientek. Imagine our shock.
We reached out to Lippert to determine if they would assist with the repair costs because of the known issues with the slide around the time of our purchase. Unfortunately, we fell outside of that time frame based on the build date, yet we experienced that exact issue known to both Lippert and Winnebago at the time. Thus, we had to pay for all of it. The slide works great now, but there is always a lingering question in our minds about whether this will be a recurrent problem… You never know. At least the repair is covered for the next year in the event something were to happen.
While the RV was at the repair shop, we had the four outstanding Winnebago recall items completed as well getting the wheel bearings repacked. This is necessary routine maintenance recommended every 10,000 miles or annually. With all of these things complete, we hope to have many years of problem-free travel with it.
