Located in Athol, Idaho, Farragut State Park is a fabulous place to enjoy the outdoors year-round. There are several hiking trails, camping spots, and direct access to Lake Pend Oreille. I (Stella) have been extremely eager to explore the park on my cross-country skis and/or snowshoes. Sadly, the snow began flying late in Northern Idaho this year, thus we had to wait until there was enough snow in the park to do so.
Farragut State Park is only a 30-minute drive from our house, making it a convenient place to get to. Thus far, we have had four fabulous cross-country skiing adventures there. We wish that we could go there several days per week – the opportunities for exploration are endless. We just take off on a trail, a closed road, or anywhere our skis want to go. A couple of times we have seen a family of deer walking around the park, a short distance from us.
There are multiple places to park in the winter, each providing access to different places to adventure. Twice we parked at Locust Grove near the disc golf course and twice at the lot near the North entrance by the Wildlife Management area. My favorite between the two is the parking area at the North entrance. I was overwhelmed with the number of places to explore!
Below, please see our pictures and the coinciding maps of our four treks at Farragut State Park. To date, we’ve trekked a total of 14.5 miles there.

Looks fabulous and so close to home. Not like the hours long drives to Grand Lake. So happy you are getting out and enjoying your new home. Miss you both !!!
