RECTEQ ROAD WARRIOR 340P WOOD PELLET GRILL

Road Warrior 340P

We had talked about getting a combo grill + smoker for about ten years. Immediately after moving to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho in September 2024, we ordered one; it was actually delivered to the house before we even arrived. Over the years, we’ve had plenty of time to research the numerous brands and types available. Most people are familiar with the Traeger brand, and while it is said to be a great product, it isn’t the one that we wanted. We selected the Recteq Road Warrior 340P model, and we are extremely pleased with our decision.

Why we chose Recteq: We go to great lengths to meticulously research products and read reviews. Based upon our findings, Recteq appears to have a heads up with customer satisfaction and support. I (Larry) spoke with Redteq and chatted with them before our purchase. Additionally, Recteq offers some unique features that set it apart from other popular brands.

Why we chose the Road Warrior 340P model: We had two goals in mind with a grill + smoker purchase. One, something that would be the ideal size for just us (two people) and/or a small group. Two, something that we could easily travel with while camping.

The Road Warrior stands tall at 39.5″ high, 35″ wide, and 19” deep; it collapses to 23” high for easy transport, such as in the back of our Silverado 15oo truck with our A.R.E. CX Evolve truck topper. It sits perfectly on top of the Decked drawer system.

EASE OF USE: Firing up the Recteq is simple: load the hopper with pellets, plug it into a power source, hit the power button, set your temperature, and walk away. Give it about 20 to 30 minutes to come to temperature, and away you go. And, assembly out of the box was a simple 15-minute process.

SIZE CAPABILITY: There is 340 square inches of grill space. We can easily fit two whole chickens, two large salmon fillets, bone-in turkey breasts, two bone-in chicken pieces/parts, and smash burgers on the Recteq griddle, to name a few. We have also made pans of smoked macaroni and cheese. NOTE: We use this for both grilling and smoking, which we do fairly evenly between the two.

TEMPERATURE ACCURACY: A temperature range of 200°F to 700°F, or “Low” to “Riot”, providing versatility for smoking, baking, grilling, searing, and more. The grill comes with one temperature probe to ensure you get full insight into the food you are cooking and to make certain it’s not overcooked. I have experienced exceptional temperature accuracy!

For example, when setting the temperature on the grill, the internal temperature remains accurate and consistent. And when placing the probe inside of the meat, this also provides a precise temperature of the meat. Out of caution, however, I still confirm the accuracy of the probe against my stand alone thermometer, and they are always within a degree or two. (The Recteq 340P does not have the PID control system).

CONSTRUCTION/DURABILITY: Rock solid with sturdy stainless-steel components for a lifetime of wood-fired flavor. A solid stainless steel heat deflector helps distribute heat throughout the grill for even cooking. We leave the Recteq outside under our covered patio with the Recteq cover over it. We have moved it around the patio, expanded and collapsed it, transported it while camping and have not had any issues whatsoever.

PORTABILITY: Weighing only 85 lbs, built with collapsible legs and wheels that allow for easy rolling. The Recteq easily collapses and expands for transporting it. To put in the back of the truck, Stella and I each lift one of ends, using the handles, and we slide it in; same with getting it out. This grill/smoker is the answer for taking along camping!

CLEANING: I clean the grill after 4 to 5 grilling sessions. I use a shop vac to vacuum out the inside, and then wipe down the inside using the Recteq degreaser. And, to make clean up easier, I also place a drip pan liner in the bottom and replace it as needed.

ACCESSORIES: We have purchased the following Recteq accessories: 40lb Pellet Storage Combo; Road Warrior Grill Cover; Small Flat Top Griddle; Drip Pan Liners (these are a must); bucket liners (another must, do not buy without purchasing); silicone pads. For pellets, we purchased the 74lb pellet bundle, which includes cherry, apple, mesquite, and the ultimate blend. The ultimate blend is our go-to pellet due to its versatility and flavor.

FINAL THOUGHTS: As mentioned above, we were looking for a small, yet portable grill + smoker and the Recteq 340P Road Warrior exceeds our expectations. The food we have smoked comes out flavorful and tasty. Grilling is a breeze, and now we are nearly able to replicate Smashburger’s smashed turkey burger using the small griddle. As Recteq suggests, “Grab Life By The Horns.”

If you have questions about how we prepare meats for smoking (i..e brines, temperatures, spritzing, etc.) please contact us. We would be happy to share that detailed information with you.
